New York City’s Restaurant Week returned this week to celebrate its 25th anniversary of delighting taste buds. This year, dozens of unique restaurants join the participation roster, and foodies have a chance to win $50 worth of grub bucks. In this anniversary year, there are no shortages of savory dishes to try, so we decided to prepare a NYC Restaurant Week 2017 guide that will help you prepare for a few weeks of truly fine dining.
How Restaurant Week works:
NYC Restaurant “Week” actually runs longer than a week – it runs from July 24th until August 18th, Saturdays excluded (and Sundays optional). This extension leaves plenty of time to sample some great food across the city. If you’ve never participated in restaurant week, or if you forgot how it works, here’s a quick rundown:
- Participants make a reservation at a participating restaurant of choice.
A wide variety of establishments are participating this year, so there’s a dish for everyone. Whether you book online or over the phone, be sure to mention your reservation is for restaurant week.
- Enjoy your 3 course meal! Each restaurant has a unique 3-course menu arranged specifically for NYC Restaurant Week 2017, but all participating establishments run the same deal: $29 per person for lunch and $42 per person for dinner.
- And don’t forget to tip. Gratuity is not included in those program prices, so bring some extra cash for your waiter’s excellent service.
Where can I make a reservation online:
NYCgo.com has partnered with OpenTable to make event reservations quick and easy. From there, you can view which restaurants are participating and locate menus and hours. Site visitors also have the option to view restaurants by features, such as “outdoor seating” or “notable chef”. You can even find new and exclusive deals, such as earning cash back when using your card to pay. Booking directly through the site will automatically populate a reservation comment to let the restaurant know you are booking for the event.
Using apps to make the most out of this year’s event:
A few apps have partnered with the event to bring you the best of this year’s NYC Restaurant Week. Both NYC Events and OpenTable have apps with easy-to-access event details and reservations. But the app you should really pay attention to this year is Instagram; share a photo of your restaurant week plates with the #NYCRestaurantWeek hashtag for a daily chance to win a $50 restaurant gift card. Essentially, it’s a reward for capitalizing on a great deal.
If you’ve been looking for an excuse to try a new cuisine or expand your palate, there’s no better time to do that than during NYC Restaurant Week. We hope you enjoy the many wonderful flavors of the Big Apple’s dynamic food culture!
